Lucknow: In a major breakthrough against a series of burglary cases, a joint team of the East Zone Surveillance Unit and Vibhuti Khand Police arrested two wanted burglars and recovered stolen cash and jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees.
The accused, identified as Kamil (38) and Hiralal Verma (19), both residents of Sambhal district, were apprehended near Gate No. 3 of Max Hospital in the Vibhuti Khand area. The arrests were made as part of an ongoing investigation into multiple burglary cases registered at Vibhuti Khand Police Station.
According to police, the accused were members of a gang that allegedly conducted reconnaissance of locked houses, under-construction properties, shops, and hotels before breaking in and stealing cash, jewellery, and other valuables. The gang reportedly targeted properties that remained unoccupied for extended periods.
During the operation, police recovered ₹4.5 lakh in cash, along with several gold and silver ornaments, including bangles, rings, and pearl-studded earrings. The recovered items are believed to be linked to recent burglary incidents reported in the area.
Police officials said that three separate cases of housebreaking and theft had been registered at Vibhuti Khand Police Station on different dates in May and June 2026. Earlier, on June 12, another accused, Sattar Khan, was arrested in connection with the same gang, and ₹1.5 lakh in stolen cash was recovered from his possession.
During interrogation, the arrested accused allegedly confessed that they, along with their associates, monitored locked and under-construction properties before carrying out thefts. After committing the crimes, they reportedly fled to Sambhal district with the stolen property. Police said the duo had returned to Lucknow to scout for fresh targets when they were apprehended.

Investigators further revealed that the stolen valuables were often sold to unsuspecting buyers, and the proceeds were allegedly used for personal expenses and substance abuse.
Police have added relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the latest recoveries and have initiated legal proceedings against the accused. Both have been sent to judicial custody.
Authorities also noted that accused Kamil has a lengthy criminal record, including multiple cases of theft, possession of stolen property, arms-related offences, and charges under the Gangsters Act in Ghaziabad.
The successful operation was carried out by the East Zone Surveillance Team led by Sub-Inspector Amarnath Chaurasia along with personnel of Vibhuti Khand Police Station, including Sub-Inspectors Shivam Kumar, Ankit Upadhyay, Raju Pandey, Gaurav Kumar, and other police staff.
Police officials stated that efforts are underway to trace and arrest other members of the burglary gang involved in the incidents.
